Ozone (O3) is an allotrope of oxygen, it is a kind light blue gas of distinctive smell, ozone is a strong oxidizing agent, its oxidation reduction potential to 2.07V in the water ,second only to fluorine (2.5V), its oxidation capacity is higher than that of chlorine (1.36V) and chlorine dioxide (1.5V),it can destroy and degrade the cell wall of the bacteria, quickly spread into the cell, oxidize and decompose the glucose oxidase and so on which are necessary for the oxidation of glucose inside the bacteria, It can also interact directly with bacteria and viruses, destroy cells, ribonucleic acid (RNA), decompose deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), RNA, proteins, lipids and polysaccharides and other macromolecular polymers, so that the metabolism and reproduction process of bacteria are destroyed,it can be seen that high ozone concentration has a great impact on the environment and human health, and the fishy smell of high ozone also makes people unbearable.
Normally dry air or dry oxygen will produce ozone through the discharge ,such as a large number of photocopiers, printing presses, fax machines and other machines, as well as the use of vacuum cleaners, air cleaners, produce ozone through the corona discharge, in addition, in the field of ozone sterilization, high concentration of ozone will remain after sterilization.

Ozone decomposition process

Process Description: the ozone-containing waste gas is dehumidified by a dryer (with molecular sieve, silica gel and other desiccant placed in it) and then enters the catalytic reactor in which placed ozone decompositon catalyst, then the catalytic reactor is emptied after catalytic treatment and clearing, Simple detection conditions: if the second bottle of starch potassium iodide solution does not change color, then ozone is completely purified.

Precautions and maintenance measures for use of catalyst
1) When the ozone decomposition catalyst is installed in the reactor (or purifier) for use, The ratio of the height of the catalyst bed to the inner diameter of the container(ratio of height to diameter)should be greater than or equal to 4:1.
2) It is best to place a certain amount (the same amount or 2 times the amount) of desiccant in front of the catalyst bed, such as activated alumina, silica gel, molecular sieve, to protect the ozone decomposition catalyst.
3) After the catalyst has been used for a certain period of time (for example, about 1 year), if the activity of the catalyst was found to decreases significantly, the catalyst and desiccant can be taken out and put in the oven to dry at 110°C for 10 hours, then it can be put into the purifier again for use.
4)For some industrial applications (such as water, tap water purifying exhaust),the ozone decomposition catalyst bed layer temperature can be increased to 50 ~ 120 °C, and the Service life will be more long.
5) When the air humidity is too high, a constant temperature heating clearing damp device can be set in the catalyst filler.
6)In use, if it is found that the effect of the catalyst decreases significantly in a short time, it may be caused by the poisoning of the catalyst caused by the partial oxidation of nitrogen to NO2 caused by the severe dampness of the catalyst or the excessive concentration of ozone. the catalyst can be ventilated in a stainless steel or ceramic container and heated to 240°C for more than 20 minutes to remove moisture and NO2.
