What are catalysts for treating volatile organic compound (VOC) waste gas?

Volatile organic compound (VOC) waste gas treatment catalysts are a technology for treating low-concentration, high-volume VOC emissions from industries such as plastics, rubber processing, and paint production. This technology utilizes microbial metabolism to degrade pollutants, converting them into biomass and inorganic substances. It is suitable for treating waste gases that are difficult to purify efficiently using traditional methods.

 

The core principle is that when waste gas passes through a microbial-containing processor, organic matter is transferred from the gas phase to the liquid phase where it is adsorbed and decomposed by the microorganisms.

 

The main processes include two categories: biofilters and bioleaching. Biofilters degrade waste gas through microorganisms in an activated filter layer; parameters such as filter media porosity and humidity affect the treatment effect. Bioleaching combines liquid absorption and biological treatment, and is divided into activated sludge and biofilm methods, suitable for organic matter with slower degradation rates. Both processes require control of temperature, humidity, and nutrients to maintain microbial activity; the selection of filter media and system design directly affect treatment efficiency and operational stability.
